Story Outline Script Plot Summary of Star Wars Episode 6 Six vi Return of the Jedi: The heroes arrive on Tatooine to rescue Han Solo, who is still frozen in carbonite, from Jabba the Hutt. Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia end up killing Jabba and most of his evil minions at the Pit of Carkoon also known as the Sarlacc Pit. Han Solo and company then proceed to the rendezvous point to plan for the final battle against the Empire while Luke Skywalker visits Jedi Master Yoda one last time on Dagobah.
Rebel spies discover the Empire is building a second death star in the Endor star system. The Rebel Alliance devises a scheme to destroy the new death star. The Rebels attack the second death star, but it turns out to be a trap set by the Sith Lords. Han Solo and company manage to disable the shield generator, which is protecting the new death star so that Lando Calrissian can destroy the second death star with the Millennium Falcon.
Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker confronts Darth Sidious and Darth Vader. After an intense light saber duel, Luke Skywalker refuses to turn to the dark side of the Force. Darth Vader threatens to turn Luke Skywalker's secret sister to the dark side if Luke Skywalker himself won't join the Sith. In a massive burst of Force energy greater than the Star Wars galaxy had ever seen, Luke Skywalker overwhelms Darth Vader with a light saber attack in order to save Princess Leia.
However, Luke Skywalker refuses to kill Darth Vader even after Darth Sidious Emperor Palpatine orders Luke Skywalker to destroy Darth Vader in the same way Darth Sidious ordered Anakin Skywalker to kill Darth Tyranus Count Dooku some twenty years earlier. Since Luke Skywalker can't be turned to the dark side, Darth Sidious decides to torture Luke Skywalker to death with Force lightning. Surprisingly, Luke Skywalker refuses to fight Darth Sidious and instead Luke Skywalker trusts in the will of the Force to deliver Luke Skywalker from most certain death.
At the last possible moment, Darth Vader betrays Darth Sidious and ends the life of Emperor Palpatine by throwing Darth Sidious into the depths of the death star reactor core. Anakin Skywalker is finally redeemed and Anakin Skywalker fulfills the Jedi prophecy of the one, who will bring balance to the Force by permanently destroying the Sith Lords. With the death of Darth Sidious, the Empire collapses instantaneously thereby allowing the Skywalker family to save the galaxy from never ending tyranny and oppression.
Role of Darth Sidious: All throughout the times of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Darth Sidious was able to utilize the power of the dark side of the Force to accurately predict the future before it actually happened. Before the events of Return of the Jedi, Emperor Dantius Palpatine has a vision in which Darth Sidious foresees the Rebel Alliance being destroyed by the second death star at the Battle of Endor and Emperor Palpatine also sees Luke Skywalker turn to the dark side.
As a result of this clairvoyance, Darth Sidious sets the trap for the Rebel Alliance and Luke Skywalker which will ultimately cause the end of both Darth Sidious and the evil Galactic Empire. Only at the last seconds of his life did Darth Sidious finally realize that the dark side of the Force always betrays its followers in the end.
Role of Darth Vader: The first 6 (six) episodes of the Star Wars movie saga focus on the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. George Lucas has stated numerous times ad nauseum that the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the Star Wars classic trilogy are the story of Anakin Skywalker. While Anakin Skywalker could not save the ones he loved during the Star Wars prequels, Anakin Skywalker would not allow Luke Skywalker to die in the same way Anakin Skywalker lost Qui-Gon Jinn, Shmi Skywalker and Padme Amidala. In the final examination, Anakin Skywalker proved the eternal love of family is more powerful even than the dark side itself.
Additional Interesting Facts About The Sith Lords: George Lucas was originally going to name Star Wars Episode 6 the title of Revenge of the Jedi. However, Lucas decided the Jedi Knights don't seek revenge even after the Sith Lords eliminated 99 percent of the Jedi from existence at the conclusion of Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. Lucas chose the iconic legendary title Return of the Jedi in honor of JRR Tolkien's literary book classic The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King.
