Script Summary Story Outline of Star Wars Episode 5 v Five The Empire Strikes Back: After the devastating destruction of the death star, Darth Sidious and Darth Vader discover that the death star was annihilated by a young Rebel star pilot named Luke Skywalker. As a result, the Empire makes a full out effort with millions of Imperial spy probe droids to locate the hidden Rebel Alliance in order to capture Luke Skywalker.
In short order, the Empire locates the Rebels in the Hoth system, but a military mistake enables the Rebel Alliance to detect the Imperial invasion. Consequently, the Rebels flee Hoth. The Empire then spends a good deal of time chasing the Millennium Falcon in deep space. Eventually, bounty hunter Boba Fett tracks the heroes to Bespin Cloud City. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker studies the ways of the Force with Jedi Master Yoda on the long forgotten planet of Dagobah.
Darth Vader captures the heroes and sets a trap for Luke Skywalker at Bespin. Han Solo is frozen in carbonite while Luke Skywalker confronts Darth Vader at Bespin. During their legendary light saber struggle, Darth Vader reveals a stunning revelation to Luke Skywalker which forever alters the destiny of the Star Wars galaxy. However, Luke Skywalker is unwilling to accept the true nature of reality in particular that Darth Vader is the biological father of Luke Skywalker.
Role of Darth Sidious: The only appearance by Darth Sidious in The Empire Strikes Back is as a holographic image projected in the communications center of Darth Vader's super star destroyer. Emperor Palpatine instructs Darth Vader to turn Luke Skywalker to the dark side of the Force. If Luke Skywalker will not join the Sith Lords, then Luke Skywalker must perish and not be allowed to exist as a Jedi Knight.
Role of Darth Vader: For the entirety of The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader is in the obsessive hunt for his lost son Luke Skywalker. Darth Vader confronts Luke Skywalker with the offer for Luke Skywalker to join Darth Vader in the quest to destroy the Emperor so that Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker can restore freedom and order to the galaxy. Without hesitation, Luke Skywalker completely rejects this offer.
Additional Interesting Facts About The Sith Lords: One of the most important aspects of The Empire Strikes Back is the emergence of mutual Sith betrayal. Darth Sidious plans to betray Darth Vader by having Luke Skywalker kill Darth Vader thereby Luke Skywalker will replace Darth Vader as the new Sith apprentice.
Likewise, Darth Vader is planning to betray Emperor Palpatine Darth Sidious by turning Luke Skywalker to the dark side so that together Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker can end the terrible reign of Darth Sidious. Darth Vader wants to become the Sith Master by bringing about the downfall of the invincible hegemony of Darth Sidious.
